The book “The Therapeutic Turn” by Ole Jacob Madsen has left a sexy book-sized scar on my mind. It concerns the mind-numbing success of psychology in modern Western societies. A success so sizeable it is in fact difficult to discern. Without a book like this.

It describes to some extent the positive interaction between psychology and individualistic political philosophy.* But what really got me going was the following.

It also brings to light the surprising (and quite ironic) complete lack of self-awareness of psychology. The field of psychology fails to describe its own limitations, or even define its own domain.

What a preposterous proposition: according to psychology the domain of psychology is everything. And the limitations of psychology are none to be found. It must be taxing not to believe yourself God Almighty when everyone shows such deference to you.

Reader discretion advised: All systems “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!”* will be engaged. Who are you to what the why…

Its all fun.
